Tylosin dosing question - hen with swollen face on one side

I have a hen with a swollen face on one side and I suspect possible respiratory infection. She is acting & eating normally otherwise and no other hens in my small flock show any symptoms. I have Tylosin powder on hand. Can I treat her alone without having to separate from the flock? Normally the powder is put in the water, but can I put the powder on some food given to her only so the others also don't get the treatment? If so what would be the dosage?

Tylosin powder has to go in the water 1 tsp per gallon for 3-5 days. Can you place her inside a wire dog crate with the medicated water and some food during the day?

I have a very small isolation run within my main run I use for separating, but the reason I'd prefer not to separate her is for the benefit of another hen who is bullied by the others in the flock and is buddy's with the puffy-faced hen and is the 2nd hen's only protection. The isolation pen is really only big enough for one. Curious why the Tylosin needs to be mixed with water?

It is mixed with water so that the chicken drinks normally and gets the correct dosage for their size and weight. Tylosin dosage orally is around 6-7 mg per pound given 3 times a day. If you can figure that dosage, it would be fine to give orally. Tylosin has 100 grams of drug per bag, or 1 gram/1/4 tsp has roughly 1000 mg if that helps you to calculate the dosage.

Thank you for this! I do have a milligram scale so I think I can get it pretty precise. Then I can put it in a treat she'll gobble up.

If her swelling in her sinus gets bigger, you can try to press out any pus around her eye. Hopefully it will go down with the Tylosin.

I used some VetRx and menthol salve carefully around the eye and ear and this went away in a week or so.
