UGH.....

I think Cocci May be back. I just finished a 6 day treatment a few days ago and I think it may be back.... One of my GL Polish chicks (6 weeks old) is walking around eating, but its wings are hanging low, and its tail is pointed down, and its feathers are puffed out...

I dont know what I can do to stop it as the corid only made it leave the flock for a few days....

The first time it came I never saw a bloody stool, so im not 100% sure it was cocci to begin with... We didnt lose any chicks when it came last time, and they all healed.

Is it Cocci?
Was it Cocci the first time?
What can I do to make it STOP?

Any advice appreciated!
Jason

well one sure thing is to take a fecel sample to the vet and have it tested

also did you use the corid for 7 days?
if not it would not be over it

did you put the 2 tbsp of ACV per gallon of water treatment for 2 weeks straight yet?
if not do so

also did you do the
wet mash probiotic with vit's I advised you to do?
here is that treatment

please do this as it builds up the chickens gut flora that is done in when medicating them

now the
natural probiotic recipe is is:
1 qt of dry crumbles
2 qts of milk, sweet, sour, or buttermilk or a mixture of all or some
1/4 cup of non flavored yoguart ( no artificial sweetmer)
1/4 cup of applesauce keep till last and put on to[p as the chickens like the flavor of the apple sauce
mix good

NOW THE IMPORTANT INGRIEDIENT FOR EACH CHICKEN FED
and add 1- 1000 mg of Vit E by cutting the end off the vit E capsule and putting it in the wet mash for each chicken

also crush one selenium tablet for each chicken in wet mash
this for each chickenyour treating
so for each chicken use 3 tbsp of mixture and 1-1000 mg of Vit E
twice a day for them till the manure is solid

and feed
chickens 3 tbsp full and what they will clean up in 20-30 minutes
then clean wet feeders and restock dry crumbles

do this twice a day for a week
till the chickens manure is right
then quit the Vit E and make just the wet mash probiotic
then once a week for life

All the while after mdicating the birds use
2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar per gallon of the chicken water so their gut flora wil be regulated
they should have this at least 3-5 days a week
then three days aweek after they are over coccidiosis

The problem yo have is it's in the environment naturally. You have birds who did not have a strong immunity and so it got out of hand. YOu can treat the symptoms, but there is no "cure". In fact, from what I've read, there aren't even really good disinfectant/cleaners to help sterilize the areas. Plus, it lays dormant so "drying out" a pen isn't effective either.

I moved my sick birds to a "clean" spot outside and did the powder stuff in their water for 7 days plus yogurt twice a day. Also, I gave them all polyvitasol to "boost" their vitamin intake. My sickest chick took the full 7 days but the others started to turn around in about 4.

The long and short of it is they will either build up immunity and overcome it or they will die.

Get them off any damp/wet bedding, raise up their water so it's not on the ground, keep their food free of pooh, get them outside as much as possible. Also, I have read you can clean any pens/cages with a 10% ammonia solution and that is supposed to be some what effective.

That may be part of the problem... For the last 48 hours everything has been SOAKED!! I dont know where to put them!!

Are you saying to let nature take its course, as they will keep on getting it?!

Im not trying to argue, im just trying to understand.

From everything I have read, yes it's a sink or swim, survival of the fittest thing. One article I read from a university study talked about how some farmers don't bother treating it. The theory being if they don't survive, they weren't "strong" enough to be used for breeding.

I would definitely get them up and dry. The coccidi love the moisture - especially if it's warm and damp!!! Can you make a temporary pen in the garage, shed, bathroom?

As I said before, I treated my chicks, but I had to say to myself "I am doing the steps, they will either recover or they won't". I lost 3 before I even realized what was wrong!! I did the Yellow powder stuff(sorry I can't even begin to pronounce it much less spell it) in a double dose for 7 days, yogurt and vitamins. I also moved them from the area I KNEW to be infested and put them in a new pen that had never had birds on it.

I dont know how well 77 chickens and 6 ducks would fit in a bathroom!

It seems like I havent been enjoying the chickens as much lately... wonder why?! lol

NO, I think you need a bigger bathroom! Can you put down some straw or something to help raise them off the wet ground? Maybe put pallets in the runs?

It's tough when you have sick anything! Plus when nature fights you....don't give up! There has to be a solution .

I will lock them in the chicken coop tonight, and keep them in there til it dries up a little...
I will put the one with symptoms in the chicken palace, with any other ones showing symptoms...

Should I get more cocci treatment or just let nature work it out?

SO MANY DECISIONS!!

that is not the truth of the matter
you have to go to the drug store or walmart
and buy
(1 1000 mg Vitamin E capsules
(2 Slenium tablets
(3 yoguart any kind except flavored
as you will be using it every day till birds are stronger buy the pint size regular yoguart
( apple ciser vinegar
these are for the water and the daily feeding of the wet mash probiotic
to rebuild the gut flora of the effected chickens

with that said you need to go to the lumber yard and buy a bag of AGRICULTURAL LIMESTONE
and put it on the soil that they chickens go on as a cure for the wet muddy areas of the pen and chicken house

besure and clean all waterers with 2-10 porportion of clorox water

if you go oxine then use it to spray over the chickens and clean the waterers daily

this will help cure the problems
