Ugh. Just-opened bag of food is moldy.

Just need to complain to someone...

We forgot it in the trunk and I think it must have been super humid in there or something...opened the bag and it is FULL of dark gray dust. Hoping we won't have a mold problem now. At least we had some chick starter and kitchen scraps so the girls still got something for breakfast...

Do not assume it was your fault, especially if the bag was only in your truck for a day or two. Most feed bags are plastic and well sealed to withstand humid climate until the bag is opened.

I've had a bag of Purina Flock Raiser with signs of mold or other contamination, and I contacted the company who asked me to document the feed with photos of the contents and lot number. They then mailed me a coupon for 100% product replacement.

Call the company. They are very grateful to investigate their quality control and even trace it to the distributor of the product. You will help keep feed safe for all our chickens by doing this.

Thanks for the tip! The mold is on the inside of the bag, so did make me wonder. It's not a fully plastic bag though...paper outside and a plasticy inner coating. It was from our local feed store, not Purina or anything like that. But I'll look into it!
