Ugh.. my beautiful Rusty is Molting!

Here is a comparison of Before and After.

The before shot was taken a few weeks ago.
The after shot was this am.

Poor homely guy! lol!

I guess if I were a guy with 8 women, I'd be almost bald too! lol!
 
Chickens go through a molt about once a year....some lose lots of feathers and others not so many. They grow new feathers in after a bit of time. Hens usually stop laying during this time. It's kind of their vacation.
 
Do they all molt around the same time every year, or does it vary from bird to bird? What age does it start?

Mine seem to have their first molt when they're 12-18 months old. I think it varies from bird to bird tho. Some of mine you hardly notice they're molting and others look pretty pathetic.

My coop is so full of feathers right now it looks like the chooks have been having pillow fights!!
