Hello everyone. This is a picture of my neighbor's chicken and I was wondering what was wrong with it? This is the worst looking one, but almost all of them lost feathers on their rumps and have sparse tail feathers. Their skin is pink. At first I thought they were molting, but they don't seem to get any better. I'm a new chicken mom and if I let mine free range in a month or so, I don't want them over by their chickens if they have some kind of disease. I'm not sure if they are being pecked at, or have a vitamin deficiency, but it sure is sad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure how to get the picture on here, so if you have ideas about that too....

Holy cow, what the heck have they done to that poor thing. Could check them for mites and seven dust the poor things. Vitamines, egg yolks, ACV. I would try it all. That poor poor bird.

Poor bird! I would NOT allow my birds to free-range with a neighbor's chicken looking like that. I WOULD keep my birds in lock up, confined to a run far away from the neighbor's property.

I dont have any experience with the breed, but could that be an extreme version of a 'naked neck'? And you could be right, it may be molting, or feathering out- but it kinda looks worse than just that. I have a few young roo's who are VERY slow feathering out and they have some sad looking naked backs. Mine are not that severe, and I know they arent being picked on, just having a tough time getting feathered (they are hatchery frizzles too, so who knows what their poor genetics are).

Hmmmm, that is sooo sad, that chook has gotta be cold.

Could be going through a severe molt, but I doubt it.

Those chickens need to checked for lice/mites, wormed and given a high protein diet.

She is going threw a hard molt, looks like she is not being fed right either (way too thin from the looks of the brest bone poking out), most likely wormy and she will have a tough time growing new feathers if things don't change.

If my neighbor had chickens or any other animal for that matter that looked that bad, I'b be tempted to call animal control and atleast have them come out and check thier care and living conditions....very sad.
