UGLY PROLAPSE - HELP!

Oh no, poor thing! I really hope she pulls through! Thank you for the update. :)

I didn’t suggest culling because I think she has a chance, and she’s not acting too bad.

You think that she has a chance? Perhaps my anxiety makes me think of the worst case scenario, but after seeing that she got another prolapse as soon as her stitches were removed, well... I'm kind of afraid that this will happen again next time she'll have her stitches removed. And she can't live with them too long because her eggs are too big to pass through her stitched vent.

How long could it take to heal that tissue (if it ever stays in place)? And how long can a super layer hybrid go without laying an egg in spring?

I think she does have a chance, but if she keeps prolapsing that’s a problem and then culling may need to be an option.

I’m not sure how long it would take to heal.
Since she lays lots of eggs, she’ll probably start early next spring or until the weather starts warming up.

I live in the Southern hemisphere and we're already in spring, that's probably why this happened these days. She started laying every single day.

That is also why I'm afraid that she produces an egg before she heals... And the reason why I'm keeping her in the dark most of the time :(

Ohhh, okay! I see, makes sense.

When did she last lay?

When did she last lay?

I wasn't here but apparently it was last Friday. A week ago.

I don't know if the prolapse happened with the Friday egg or with the Saturday or Sunday egg (my mom saw the prolapse on Sunday and called me).

I don't know when the lash egg formed, either.

Ok, hopefully she doesn’t lay again anytime soon.

How big was it? Do you have a picture?
A lash egg would mean she has an infection and inflammation of the oviduct. 🫤

I don't have a picture, the vet took it before I could take a picture of it. But it was...half the size of one of her normal eggs. And hard like a stone.

Yes, lash egg + prolapse + necrotic tissue would mean HUGE infection but she's been on antibiotics (Enrofloxacin) since day 1 and that's probably why she is still alive and actually feeling good.

She is also on Meloxicam to manage inflammation.

Sounds like it was a big lash egg, poor thing!

I’m glad she’s got antibiotics, she definitely needs them. I hope they help!

Today the vet did an ultrasound to her. She has salpingitis.

He said that she may end up with infertility - which is the best thing that could happen to her, tbh.

She is on antiinflammatories too (Meloxicam) so hopefully they help with that inflammed oviduct.

Do you guys have any experience with this diagnosis? I can't quite wrap my head around that she got all the reproductive issues all at once - lash egg, prolapse, salpingitis - and she is just walking around and sunbathing like it's another Saturday to her.
