So now that I've gone over the edge and joined the hatching folks, LOL a few first time questions.

Where do I place the incubator in the house? I've read that it need to be in a room with a stable room temp, but we don't have AC in our house, so maybe it would be better in the cellar? There is electricity down there, so that would be no problem, and I got the egg turner, so I wouldn't have to traipse up and down the steps several times a day.

Also, I have eggs coming in the mail. When they arrive I've heard that it's best to unwrap them and let them rest in an egg carton for a day - is that point up, or point down resting? And do I sit them in the cellar to rest where the temps are more steady? Or up in the kitchen and not worry about it. We've been getting down in the 60's at night and up into the mid 80's during the day.

Thanks for your help! We hope to set our first batch this weekend!

First with the eggs small end point down and normal room temp. which in my kithchen is around 70. I think cellar would be alright if it isn't to cool.

Good luck!

The celler is probly a good idea , If they are in an egg turner you can put the eggs in the incubator after they arive and just dont plug in the turner till the next day. If the eggs got to warm during shipping you woudnt want them to cool after being warm enough to start but thats just my opnion and Im shure others will have theres. Make shure you set up your incubator and run it for a few hours at least to make shure it get to temp and holds temp well. What kind did you get. And the temp will drop when you put the eggs in no need to adjust it. It should return to the temp its set for once the eggs are up to temp as well so give it sevral hours. Do you have a thermometer? Any thing to check humidity?
Welcome to the addiction dont forget to buckle your seat belt and return your seat to its up right postion .
