Uh Oh - is this a rooster?

This makes me sad! These two are such a pair, but we can't keep the rooster. I hope the hen recovers when we take him away.
 
I wouldn't tKe him away until you get some more hens for her. Chickens don't do well alone, they are flock birds.

Normally, you would quarantine new birds for at least 30 days before adding them to your flock to try to prevent disease transmission, but since you will have only one hen to risk, at least check them over really well. Please do not take them home if they look ratty or have discharge from eyes, nares (nostrils) or smell bad-check them over closely for lice/mites, too.
