Uh oh... WOOD shavings vs Pine shavings...

I purchased a bag of Aspen chips and have had my chicks on them almost a week without problems. The certainly love scratching around in it. The chips are for bedding and Aspen chips are clearly printed on the bag.

ok my babys were kept at the store where i got them in pine shavings and i had them out when they got to be about 3 months old. I have been using grass hay compliments of local farmers that drop round bales but with winter coming will mix the pine shavings under the hay. My chickens dont free range yet, so they have a pretty good size house and two outside runs for 10 chickens. So i have had no problem with the pine. Does anyone think it will hurt to continue to mix it like that or should i go straight pine shavings? also since i am a new chicken person and am worried about the cold is it too much to put a heat lamp for them? most people look at me like i am crazy. My chickens are spoiled. Let me know what you all think. I have 8 hens (6 months old) and 2 roosters. mostly bannys. thanks for any and all information. Oh and feed.. what do you suggest for feed? i have been buying 2 feeds and mixing them
