clair,my broody is trying to help the chicks out of the egg.ur not supposed to do that?right?shes pecking at the pips.making bigger holes.what is she doing?is it safe?

I've had hens do that some times. You know if a chick is in trouble? That sound they make? They do that if they are stuck, and the hen will try to help them. If the chick is strong enough to make a racket, it is strong enough to survive. I wouldn't worry about her, she sounds like she knows what she's doing

ETA: You're also not supposed to open the incubator when the eggs are hatching, but I've had several times when a hen will leave the nest to eat when an egg is pipped. They always hatch out just fine
