Uhhh, what's going on?

Congrats on the egg! One if my leghorns is due to lay anyday now and I'm waiting to hear the egg song from her :)
My roosters all like to join in for fun too :D

I'm glad the video helps y'all out! I had no idea what an "egg song" was LOL. It is LOUD!!

As for my wonderful first egg...

I woke up this morning to a microwave door being slammed. When I came out to the kitchen, my eldest son (10 yrs old) had a fork in a cooked egg. I said "What are you doing??" He said, "Eating the egg the chicken laid yesterday."

I was so upset!! I was going to cook it this morning, and let my two sons have a bite, THEN let my eldest eat the rest (he's been checking for eggs every single day and has been DYING to eat one). I was also going to be very careful cracking the egg open so I could save the shell! He wasn't gentle at all...I found the shell in pieces in the trash. The worst part is, I'm afraid he might get sick...he didn't wash the egg before he cracked it open!
Sorry about your egg. We have already had the talk with the girls about who is getting the first egg, DH. He worked so hard building the girls their house, he gets the first one, but know dad, he will let the girls have some too!

I am a newbie too and when I first heard the egg song I thought one of my chickens was injured or something. It's very loud, but it sounds exactly like one of those chicken egg prize machines they had in the grocery store as a kid. Do you remember those? The chicken would come alive when you put the quarter in and she'd go, "Buk Buk Buk Bukaw, Buk Buk Buk Bukaw" for a little bit and then a colored plastic egg with a surprise would come down the chute. Hahaha...I think of that every time I hear it now. Funny thing for me is, it's usually the same chicken, top of the pecking order, that announces everyone's eggs. Maybe she thinks its her duty or something but any time any chicken lays an egg she stands in the door of the hen house and let's everyone know as loud as she can that an egg has been layed. And she's always all up in the layer's business too, just like your roo :) Chickens are so funny. My first layers were at 17 weeks too,by the way. And I still have some others who haven't layed yet, but it seems like once the others see one of their sisters lay an egg, they all of a sudden all want to.

I'm so happy...she laid another egg this morning! It looks a tiny bit bigger than the one from yesterday! I fried it up and my boys and I split it...boy was it YUMMY!!!
