Welcome to the thread :D

Lovely breed there with the leg bars and ducks and geese too! I'm sure you certainly need the wood burner up in the Cairngorms, brrrrr.....

Hi guys.

Sort of a U.K. member.

Originally and always a Yorkshire man. Then spent 16 years in Lincolnshire and now living in beautiful Bulgaria for almost a year. I'm lucky as I now have plenty of land and my first batch of 10 chooks.

Hi everyone. I'm pleased to say that my redmite problem is being solved by DE powder, though I expect I'll be going through a lot of it iver the weeks & years !!

How is everyone else getting on?

I've also got a problem with one of my rescue hens bleeding. It's not from her vent, but her tail feathers - which she didn't have many of....

I've isolated her from the others... But unsure if it'll clot by itself or whether i should be putting something on her.

Any suggestions ?

Great to hear you are getting there with the mites, it's just such a long slow process and breaking the cycle of them is the trick.

As for your hen I would have separated her too. I'm afraid when chickens see blood it tends to send them into a frenzy of pecking. She may have been over preening or her flock mates have been pecking at her. Some wound ointment/anti bac spray should help her to keep any infection out. Purple spray or Terramycin spray can help with stopping the others seeing the blood as they are purple and blue in colour. Untill the redness has gone I would keep her seperate to give her time to heal up. Have you checked them for lice? Lice actually live on the bird unlike the mites that live in the coop.
