Hello, from not-so-sunny Milton Keynes.  The rain hasn't made getting everything ready much fun, but it'll be worth it.

Expecting our first 4 chucks tomorrow. We're very excited. 

It's good to see so many other UK peeps to help with sourcing local info.

Hellooo! First post on this thread and hopefully it'll prove to be successful!

my ducks have been loving the rain but our garden is beginning to look like a mud bath

Does anybody make/ know where I could buy duck nappies?! I miss spending my evenings in the garden with the girls now that it's dark but I don't want poo stains in the house.
I'm struggling to find any uk based sellers as I guess pet ducks are pretty rare over here!
They'd love a few hours in the house every evening! Any help would be amazing, thank you xx

Duck nappies get asked for quite a lot and I can find non here in the UK, no matter what I type into Google! Getting them posted over from the US seems to be the only way. Etsy seems to be a good place to find them ~ https://www.etsy.com/uk/ Hope you are able to find some

How are things with you? You have changed your profile pic! Are you an Audrey Hepburn fan? It is Ms Hepburn isn't it?
Hope it hasn't been too wild and wet at the coast wherever you are. There may not be much of a view, living down in the bottom of a valley but it's a lot less scary when a storm blows in! I'm turning into such a wuss about strong winds as I get older. Actually, the power of nature in general is a pretty daunting force. So pleased that it is calm and not raining(yet) today. I slipped and fell in the mud yesterday....at least it was a soft landing but boy was I filthy and wet! I will be wearing my over trousers from now on!

Coffee break is over so I must crack on.

Hi Kim

I'm a night person rather than a morning person like you. It comes of working too many night shifts I think! I'm fine thanks apart from a fall in the mud yesterday....just pride injured though....too much padding on my bum to do any damage!

How is Harry? I would doubt you even thought of getting on him at the weekend with the weather being so bad. I had my 3 reshod yesterday, so must get them out. Unfortunately my sister couldn't make it last week and won't be over this week either, so I will just have to bite the bullet and go it alone. Zak's final poultice dressing came off last night clean so Ian is just waiting for his farrier to come and put his shoe back on. Hopefully he will be fine. It was really bad luck getting three nails through his sole though.
I have one more hen come back into lay and others are definitely pinking up again, so it looks like I have turned the tide on my egg drought. I haven't processed any cockerels this week yet, so need to get myself into gear on that front.

Must head out now and get some work done. Hope you are having a good day.

Yep, I changed my profile pic. I think Audrey hepburn was quite remarkable, but I wouldn't really call myself a fan. I admire her for her humanitarian work. Besides, it's a much nicer face to look at than the last one I had, right?

Well, wild and wet kind of just goes with living out here. But I'm still trying to adjust to just how windy it can get. The post-woman nearly blew into a ditch today. Lol admittedly it's far funnier when it's not you it's happening to. I agree with you on the power of nature. When the sea gets really rough and the wind's blowing rain in your face, it really makes you realise just how small you are.
The last few days though, wow! It's cold. Has it hit you yet? There was frost on our windows last night.

Yes, I will certainly agree about her face. One of the most beautiful women ever in my opinion. I don't know much about her humanitarian work but, from what you say, her beauty was obviously more than skin deep.

We've had a couple of decent frosts so far. Ice half an inch thick on standing water like water butts. That is the trade off for being down in the bottom of the valley. The frosts are harder and take most of the day to give because the sun is slow to make it's way over the hill. That said it has been a very pleasant here today. Blue sky and sunshine.
I treated my pens to some fresh straw after all the damp and mud of the past few days and the chickens thoroughly enjoyed that. It was a joy to watch them scratching about in it. The flock that free ranges were happily making a mess of my muck heap in the paddock. I miss having a nice tidy muck heap and seem to spend much of my time clearing up the mess the chickens make...they are worse than the horses! There are times when I'm mucking out and leave the barrow unattended for a moment and they have it half emptied again before I know where I am at or I've just swept everything into a nice neat pile and go to get the shovel and when I get back 20 seconds later, it's all over the floor again. Arrgh! Those are the times that I wish I had them penned up too.... but they would really hate it after being used to their freedom.

Shame on you laughing at the post lady getting blown into the ditch. I assume she was on foot and not in a van!

I picked the last of the apples off my trees this afternoon before the deer had them all. I had the idea that they would keep better on the tree than in the house, but the deer had other ideas and with just being young trees they were too easily within reach of them. I think they have had the larger portion of them and I may have to invest in some deer fencing in future years. I don't begrudge them a few windfalls but it's a bit much eating them off the trees!

Off out now to do evening stables and put chucks away. Hope you have a pleasant evening.

The frosts certainly aren't as bad out here and the snow doesn't get a chance to build. I used to live in a valley too, surrounded by hills. I know what you mean about the ice! Good to hear you had nice, clear weather though. It was fairly clear and crisp out here too, and there was a very pretty sunset. I have to say though, I do miss the landscape, the trees especially. The coast is very bare.

Sounds like you have your hands full with all those animals. How're they coping with the weather? Are you having issues with their water freezing over?

Haha, yes she was on foot. I know it's terrible to laugh, but truly you should've seen it.

Apple trees, deer, frost - Sounds beautiful over there! I bet the apples taste delicious too, shame the deer seem to agree.
I think fencing is a wise idea, lest the trees be completely stripped. They annihilated our plum tree!

well thanks for advice I knew someone might have a idea

in answer to ur questions the chickens seem to be taking it in turns to lay and moult at mo im getting 3/5 chicken eggs and 1 duck egg as she lays all year round ( khaki Campbell) the others wont lay again till Feb as they are Indian runners.

He actually seems alot better today I didn't end up bringing him in as when I went to have a look at him aiyla started screaming ( she going through major clingy stage

) bt when I went to get him yesterday it was almost like he was using his wings as crutches but today just limping my hubby off tomorrow so I'm gonna hopefully clean the coop out and have a proper look at him then. (god I hate this weather for coop cleaning it's so wet and messy the chickens don't have brains I'm sure as they just rip every blade of grass up which makes it in to sloppy mud there's no chance of trying to re seed as they just don't leave it alone.

As for pics I'll see what I can do
