UK Member Please Say HI

another update another egg is well on its way I come down this morning and could hear cheaps a few hours later it was still in same state of play so I got some warm water on some kitchen roll and moistened the egg but the shell is like concrete so I picked a bit round to help it a little now I've left it again see how it does I think that what's happened to other poor thing egg to hard to her out is that possible?

I think it's something to.do.with moisture from my research I'm anxious coz I don'want it to tire but also don't wanna interfere and do something wrong and I'm worried my hen might kill it she just sat softly clucking at mo

Ducklings do take longer to hatch, keep checking it. Can you remember how long it's been pipped? As you say I believe it's to do with moisture also. A hen does not go back to the nest wet as a duck would. The moisture a duck would take back to the nest would soften the shell but a hen would not. Waterfowl shell seems to be like concrete, I've got three goslings hatched now but I've had to finish the zip for the last two as they just could not get through the shell :( To be quite honest this hatch of goslings is driving me mad as I don't like interfering and opening the incubator all the time. I've had to put a safety air hole in number 5 as it had internally pipped but there was no external pip. Number 4 has pipped at the wrong end so that will more than likely need help and number 6 is doing nothing, no draw down of air cell and I can't see any movement so I think it will be a late death for that one.

What do I do about the other one I can't hear anything but it almost looks like a black color showing through the egg is that normal

Gosh its proving to be quite a hands on hatch then!
That's what terrifies me about when mine hatch. I don't generally assist...

With just the two in the previous hatch it all seemed pretty easy but having 6 is a whole new ball game! It's worth it in the end though to see them in the brooder ~

Its out hatched about 10 mins ago a little bit of liquid in the bottom is that right?

Yes there is sometimes hatch gunk left over in the egg. Has it absorbed all blood and yolk? Did it hatch on its own?
