Hatch Update:
From 1am when the first egg pipped I've had 5 chicks hatch.

1 was stuck... and had a bleeding navel. The yolk was absorbed, but the cord was stuck to the membrane still and not detached from the chick. Cornflour at the ready & cotton buds... to the rescue !

I'm sure I read that from a very long thread in the last 20 days... thanks wise sage, whoever it was...:old

What followed was 10 minutes of near full-blown panic with a very life-less chick. What kept me hopeful was the baby was breathing, and heart beating. I just had to watch, but gradually started to become more fluffy, and now looks to be absolutely fine. Definitely the smallest of the bunch, less feathers-probably less developed. Hopefully it'll pull through the night.

There's still 1 egg that hasn't pipped externally, but I think has an internal pip. I wonder why it's slower than all the others, it is the biggest egg, but not oversized !
7 set
1 infertile
5 hatched
1 still to pip
Congratulations Brinsea
:ya:celebrate:ya

Thank you for all your support !!

That is a brilliant hatch rate!! Were they shipped? Wait 24 hours if there's no external make a safety hole. I use a screw it makes a perfect hole.

No, they aren't shipped. It's another story !! But I'm awake and excited so I'll tell it :)

I had some ex batts, a Roo from a primary school project and a couple of what I think are black sex link hybrid hens !!
I know - what a barnyard mix ...

But the fox ran rife over the winter and I lost a few hens, but importantly my Roo went first.
:hit

I had hoped to have my first chicks during the Easter hatch along earlier this year. My 2 girls were excited - chicks at Easter !! Unfortunately, auction eggs tunrned out to have zero fertility and I stopped after 10 days. Im not sure who was more disappointed...

27th May melton has a graded auction (following bird flu restrictions) and I find myself coming home with a trio of Cream Legbar :woot

Then only 10 days later and some helpful 'yes they're fertile eggs' from the BYC collective; I thought I'd collect eggs and pop them in the Brinsea. Play 20 days forward, and here I have a motley crew of Cream Legbar crosses:highfive:

I'll get pictures tomorrow, but 5 completely different chicks: 1 black, 1 chipmunk, 1 brown, 1 white & 1 pure cream Legbar.

I love a happy ending!!

Here they all are looking quite new, floppy and soggy - at least my humidity was good :yesss:

Those faces!!! How's it feel to be a chicken parent? Lol. I've got a internal pip in mine hopefully I'll have babies soon :fl

Oh how exciting !
:fl
I hope everything works out for you. Your name suggests this is your first time, but perhaps you've not changed it !!

It feels really good. Knowing they are healthy. I can give them a good home - hopefully they'll range in the garden and I'll keep them safe at night time.

There's one egg left that only pipped this morning once the rabble had left the Brinsea which I'm waiting still to come out. It's cheeping in it's shell.

They're adorably cute at the minute. Just starting to venture out from the brooder.
Hopefully some lucky vibes can head your way.
