UK Member Please Say HI

Thanks. Gotta keep looking forward and do the best for what I've got. I can't really give much advice about joffrey apart from I think that cockerals go through hormonal changes. Either that or you will just have to cuddle him all day! He seems like a right little character! I hope he's being nice to his other girls though!
Aye funny thing is Joffrey is ok so far today. Funny little thing he is. How is Boomer settling in the pidgeon loft, I am assuming he will be the first of a few ?

SHE now five has friends! They all had a bath yesterday. It was funny to watch them all trying to get in a washing up bowl!

They are really funny birds. You can see there personalities the same as chickens. I can't let them out yet. It will take a few months to homeset them so they all come back. It's all New but good fun!

That is a super loft for them and sounds like you will enjoy keeping them. Have you thought about racing them? Maybe sending one back home to hubby with a message...`put the kettle on`. Interesting to note that they have similar personalities to chickens. Its great to diversify. :D

It would be nice to race them. But I have alot of home training to do first. When I tried sending boomer back to her previous home, it took 1 1/2 hrs to fly 16 miles! Considering they normally fly at about 60mph or faster with a back wind, she's a little on the slow side! I could send a message to the wife to put the kettle on!!

Hi there, my first newbie question, I get my 7 week old Pekin Bantam chicks on Sunday. I think it’ll be their first time sleeping outside (in a coop), apparently they need to be kept in a run during the day at first, which I have built ready for them coming but how old will they need to be before I can start letting them in my garden?
Thank you x

Well done! I bet you can't wait to get them! You could let them out straight away but they are small and could be an easy target for cats or birds of prey or foxes if you have any about. I would personally keep them in the run for the first week or two so they get used to their new surroundings. They will settle down and find where there food and water is. When you let them into your garden I would make sure you have a good fence all around so they don't go wandering into neighbours garden or away from the safety of your garden. And some cover to keep out of the sun! They will love exploring so they will be everywhere but if they are anything like my chickens they will end up on your back door wanting in the house!

I agree with Countrychickenuk, I would give it a week or two for them to settle in and see how it goes. Some people suggest letting them out not long before they go in their coop at nightime as they wont go so far as it gets dark and will make their way back in. I am very excited for you, its a wonderful hobby.
