Pleased to hear they have them in France, too. I'd be happy to look, though I am no expert in judging the breed.

I've noticed a trend toward ornamental type birds recently, which is against what I've been taught about the breed; a good production type is the ideal, with manageable crest and beard so as not to hinder ranging.

Forgot I took a whole load of pics the other weekend. Meet William:

What do you think? I know nothing of Araucanas(well any chickens really :lau) and just got them as I wanted the blue eggs but he seems very attractive to me, his pure whiteness, comb and general shape and stance just seems really nice.

He's lovely, however is Rumpless Araucana, which I have never owned. I keep the British Tailed type.

His biggest flaw would be his lack of ear-tufts, which is a requirement of the breed but is semi-lethal; two copies of the gene causes the tufts to grow into the brain or something. If your hens are tufted, they would produce show stock together without worrying about any a double-dose.

He's very handsome, though, and the name suits him well. Have you got a hen called Meghan as well? :p

I've got a Christmas present coming.....3 rescue chickens; one rooster and two hens.:celebrate
Going to have to build another coop.
They are down in the village at the moment in quarantine. Really nice man from Morocco found them up on the ridge. It's quite common for people (?) to abandon them up there when they move or the hens stop laying. I've had two in the past from up there.

He looks lovely but looks nothing like my araucana cockerel!
