It makes me itch thinking about the creepies!

It does...just like when someone mentions nits :barnie it makes you super itchy.

Well good news.....sort of! The 4 chickens that we thought had been got by the fox have returned. DW and her friend caught one but the other three are very wary and scarpered as soon as anyone went near. I'm going there tonight to try and catch them. But...the stables don't want anymore chickens so the one we have caught is in a cage in my garage at the moment, she now has a name, caramel. Looks like she is staying :th. She's a young Warren pullet.

The lady who's garden they are in wants to try and catch the other three in the morning. Hopefully they'll still be there.

That's great news so far considering you thought the fox had already taken them. Hopefully the others can be caught tomorrow.

Caramel is lovely! :love

For everyone here...are your chickens still laying?

I'm getting roughly 3-4 eggs a day off my silkies and then in my mams flock she's getting around 12 a day from her chickens.

People don't believe us that our chickens are laying just like any other time of the year. Even one of our full moulters is dropping the occasional egg for us

I've still got hatching eggs popping out left right and centre

I'm getting no eggs whatsoever from my original flock. I get one maybe every other day from one of my orpingtons. That's it! :( I currently have 22 hens. In fact my pigeons are laying more! :lau

Oh no...are those pigeon eggs just as tasty on your breakfast? :gig Seriously though do you eat your pigeon eggs or do you hatch them?

As for why ours are laying so much, we really don't know. We have a big fibreglass company next to our house and I always joke on and say the fumes from it are making our chickens mutants :lau the smell from it can be so strong.

Other than that, they're still getting layers pellets and mine are getting breeder/show pellets. They're let outside at around half 7 and put to bed at 4. Both of the roosters are still at it too...

Tha

Thanks. Generally I use preloved.

x2 for Preloved, it's so much easier to use and there's quite a few people that see ads on there with it being a popular site.

I've never eaten the pigeon eggs. I'm sure they would be perfectly fine. They only get quality feed. Not chips and kebabs from the street like town ferals! There is something not quite right about eating there eggs. I have boiled them up before and crushed them up for the chickens. They didn't say no! As for the hens not laying most are in or have just about finished moulting. Also I don't have so many hybrids now. They layed all year. The ones that I do are getting on a bit.

Yea I'm sure they'd be alright to eat too, possibly similar to Quails eggs. I can say I've never had them either, the most 'exotic' egg I've had was a goose egg which I found pretty bland taste wise. My quail eggs used to be nice but you get hardly anything out of them.

Here's Cocky!

With little chick remnants on his feathers :hmm

Aww he's beautiful! Looks like he could do with a bib though! His head feathers look similar to the silkies. Could you get a nice poof with it!

Haha he certainly does need a bib!

It's due to the way he eats...he bashes his food, sometimes till the insides are out :sick then he swallows them whole. He still believes he's catching live chicks and mice when they aren't, they're bought frozen.

Think I should get photos once he's finished cleaning himself :lau

I know what you mean, when he's rearranging his feathers his fluffs up the feathers on his head giving him a nice Silkie looking poof!
