Hi Taimon

Well done for fixing up your friend's shed for your girls. It's good to know they approve of it. I'm a keen recycler and will be making my next coop out of an old trailer. I also make my beehives out of recycled materials.

I think you are pretty certain of at least one broody out of those breeds but it may be more likely that you are inundated with them and have a minority of birds producing eggs. I have just acquired two light sussex from my neighbour because he lost patience with their regular broodiness and lack of egg production. Not really sure why I took them as I already have broody hens, but we'll see. I had initially offered to cull (and eat them) as he was sick of feeding them and just wanted rid of them, so he could start again with some black sex links, so this is their final chance. Of course silkies are renouned for being broody and I imagine the Barbu d'Uccles will have a tendancy too although I have no experience of them. Will you buy in hatching eggs or hatch your own..... as and when the girls decide they want to start incubating. Do you have plans on what to do with the excess cockerels if you do get chicks?. I can tell you it's not easy culling them. I did two more last night and still have 9 to go but they were starting to harass my hens and egg production has dropped as a result, so it was time to go.

Anyway, good luck with your little flock.

Best wishes

Barbara.

Hi :welcome & the thread!

Great to hear BYC has been so helpful for you :D
I'm afraid I don't have any chicks at the moment and we are a little far apart. For now you could give her a small cuddly toy and a mirror so she may not think she is all alone untill you can find some more chicks.

@rebrascora

Hi Barabara :frow
Hope things are well for you? Oh poor old Harry :hugs Even though he has gone to the coop in the sky, it sure does sound like it was the right thing for him. Did you get the others processed ok? Hope the peace treaty is holding up ok with the oik!!

Pleased to report the hands are coming on well :yesss: Still sore and the right is still worse than the left so it's going to take more time for that I reckon. I tell you what, I have never had them as bad as this before. Was stupid really as I had just taken my gloves off to mix feeds up and just never thought about putting them back on. Just ambled straight off down the fields!! Some how and I don't now how I've managed to keep the infection at bay. Got some good dressings on them for when I'm working and lots of soaking in dettol to get them off. Last couple of nights I've been drying them up and leaving the dressings off over night, going well barring a bit of weeping. Such a relief to get them back on in a morning though!!
Fingers crossed your sisters friend is ok, hers sound worse than mine. I dont think I could have coped with even water touching them when I first did it. Was running on auto pilot untill I got home. I think the cold water makes the wounds contract or something like that. Luke warm water is better for them.
I used a pair of tweezers to get the bits of rope out, it worked a treat.

Didn't do anything for Valentine's Day. We just give each other cards and that's it. Now a KFC sounds like my cup of T rather than a fancy romantic meal! Glad you enjoyed the film, I've still not managed to see it so will wait for it come out on DVD. Pretty sad going to the flicks all by yourself!!

Egg production coming on still, between 6-8 a day right now. I have started buying the neighbours silence again with them in preparation for getting a new cockerel ;)

Hope Sunday is going for you and that you have managed to get out riding more than me!!

Have a lovely afternoon and evening.

Kim xx

Thanks @rebrascora for your help and information best of luck with the two LS ( try putting ice cubes under them next time they go broody ) I've got a Barbu d'uccle rooster for the two Barbu d'uccle girls and a silkie Rooster for my Silkie hen, my normal LS ( and if he can get there ) and for my Bantam LS so hoping I can use some of their eggs, I'll use other breeds eggs if they are available when the girls go broody .

Hi.
I am after some Orpington eggs for hatching, have a lovely Crele cockerel but only 1 buff hen, want to increased flock and breed some more. I am Shropshire UK, could collect local or otherwise would need to be posted. Any info or ideas appreciated. I would also be interested in any day old or young Orpington chicks.
Many thanks.

Hi Charlotte and welcome to the thread.

Tell us a bit more about yourself and your chucks and post pictures if you can, because we do love seeing people's chicken photos and any other photos for that matter.

Best wishes

Barbara
