Hi Barbara :frow

Oh things are pretty pants right now :hit I set the 24 eggs in the incubator after candling them. They sat for 24 hours before setting and they had arrived in good order with only a couple having slightly saddle air cells. Candled at day 7 but only 6 are developing!! Well goodness me I know posted eggs can be hit and miss but this was just too low on the fertility rate. I emailed them to ask about fertility and she got back to me to say after she had candled hers the rates were 50% or lower on the black tails and orpingtons. I have 4 black tails and 2 pekin still cooking away along with a black tail that I'm not so sure on so I have left it in just incase. Durham hens have been great and are going to send me replacement eggs when I'm ready for them. She has suspended sales on the back tails and Orpington untill they improve.
I have found some Tolbunt polish eggs near York that I'm going to pick up on Thursday afternoon so I'm going to ask Durham if they can resend at the end of April. I'm going to add the Tolbunt to these 6. If the 6 make it to lockdown I will move them to my other incubator for hatch so I don't get the mess on the Tolbunt.

I've also been nursing a sick hen that had been bullied by the others in her group. Didn't think there was much hope for her as she was bad with some very neurological head twitching, took a few days but she is making progress and is finally out of my utility room and in a coop on her own. She has decided she does not like any other chickens and would rather be on her own. She's eating better on her own rather than hiding away. She seems much happier without the others giving her grief.

Hands are all good thanks :D The new skin is still a bit tender but I've been remembering my gloves!! I have been naughty and not ridden but Harry seems to have gotten over his spring fever. That maybe to lure me in though! :/ I'm going to make the effort and get on him this week.

I'm sure you and Archie will do great once you get back into the swing of things with your jumping!! Once you get the first few out of the way it will be like putting a pair of old slippers back on

Think that's about it for now as always I will think of something else!!

Hope your having a fab day today.

I am Bad, sorry :/
I wont post anymore, I promise

They stay in the incubator for 24 hours then I move them to the Guinea cage brooder under a Brinsea Eco glow heat plate. After a few days I shift them out the shed under a lamp and weather permitting they get let out in the run around the shed at about 2 weeks of age.
Maybe you could give it a go when Aiyla is a little bigger, kids really do find it fascinating watching them hatch.
