UK Member Please Say HI

Sorry for your loss, my hens seem to be dropping like flies at the moment so I know exactly how you feel, a treasured pet dying is always heartbreaking. I too have a Khaki Campbell along with a Cherry Valley and 3 Swedish. I find the ducks are really messy but great fun to have around. Hope you enjoy the new Silver Appleyards.

I would love to have some ducks but the mess they make really puts me off :sick

Hope it's ok to just jump in? I'm in Swansea, we have just recently got 4 POL (but yet to lay!) pullets. We already had one Hen, though, because our son is Henry! Nice to see other UK people and chickens about! :)

Here's Belle the Bluebell, Agatha the Rhode Rock, and Enid the Light Sussex.

It's Hilde! She's a Speckledy, the smallest and most timid. Not a massive fan of Agatha!

Iris hasn't quite got the hang of this chicken-keeping malarkey yet!

This is Henry, beloved of the hens!

Hi :welcome and the thread!!

Of course it's ok to jump in, everyone welcome here :D

Lovely pics of your birds and the kids enjoying them too! I'm sure Iris will get the hang of them very soon, a fine chicken keeper in the making.

Good luck with eggs, hope you don't have to wait too long.

Yes this is true,

I grew up with chickens at home and I had forgotten how great they are to keep.
So many personalities!

Yes the personalities are the best :D
I have some real odd bods :gig

Oops! Might take a few weeks. Let's hope they are not like that broody hen I had last year. She brooded and hatched eggs last June/July and didn't lay an other egg until May of this year :th She laid for 2/3 weeks and has quit again. She is living on her own at the mo as the others bully her and she has been on deaths door a couple of times due to the bullying and some kind of neuro issue. Not sure if she is thinking of having another go as she has put on lots of weight (maybe due to her not been bullied out of food) and she has been plucking feathers out. I put her some eggs in the nest box to see if she wanted to have a go but nothing so far. Some of the little Pekin eggs could have gone under her :(
She is a strange hen though with weird habits!!

@ GGBEAR

Apologies if I have jinxed you. If it's any consolation I was just saying last week how well my welsummer and legbar were laying.... better than their first year and huge eggs..... and then within a couple of days they have stopped without any obvious reason, so it looks like I have jinxed myself too.

Hope your ducks.... and my hens.... are back to laying soon.

How is Aysla (sp?) doing? Hope she is being a good girl and letting you get plenty of rest. .
