UK Member Please Say HI

Hi there, Im Claire. I live in Lancs at the moment - but moving to the Lakes soon. I have 13 chickens, including 2 OEGs, 1 wyandotte, 3 leghorns, 5 Pekins and 2 Pekin cockrels. They vary in tameness (how do you tame leghorns?!)

Hi

I am in Bolton :)

My white leghorn, Talula, is an ex batt. I got her 6 months ago so guess she is now 1 and a half. She is very skittish but will feed from my hand. Have had to bath her as she seems to breed her own lice and am waiting for warmer weather to do her again. I bought a fishing net to catch her. Now I just wait till she is in bed before I get her out to medicate etc. Some hens, especially if you've not had them from chicks can never really be tamed I suppose. Not an expert but this is what I am finding.

Hi Claire :frow

I'm in the Lakes and its a beautiful place to live- I'm sure that you will love it (apart from the rain).....

Me and the lady up the road are letting them out but ensuring there food is unable to be touched by wildlife and their water and also like I said their pond has also been emptied. They have no treats outside so as not to encourage wild birds but they can not stay in its not big enough if it becomes serious is close to me I will take desperate measures is ducks in side the house chickens locked in coop

I am seriously wondering whether it's possible to install a chicken flap... they keep trying to dive out of the door every time I go in to check/feed/unfreeze the water. I've even let some in the house this week! If I let them out in the garden, I'd have to remove all the puddles... mine like drinking out of puddles no matter how much clean water they have - particularly from one pot that contains camomile?!

Our new house is next to a river and can flood... the new chicken HQ may need to float since chickens seem to get wet and sink :/

Hey everyone I've only just joined byc, I'm from the U.K and I saw this thread so thought I'd join some of those chicken pics are beutifull

Hi tanithcrane and welcome to the thread and BYC as a whole!

What part of the UK are you in? It helps if you include that info on your profile page so that it is displayed each time you as it can be relevant to any advice that is sought or given.

What type of poultry do you have? Feel free to post some photos of them ....we love photos! Do you have any other animals?

How are you coping with the bird flu lock down? I ordered a poly tunnel yesterday lunchtime to give my girls more space and amazingly it's just been delivered, so that's my job for this afternoon sorted! Can't ask for better service than that and it was even free P&P!

Anyway, must go as I have lots to do but look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Regards

Barbara

Hi Kim

Sorry for the short response the other day, I got interrupted and had to head off. I think my post may have come across wrong....yes poly tunnels are ideal for veg and that's what I will be hopefully growing in it after the chucks get their freedom...whenever that may be. Can't believe it has arrived in less than 24hrs from ordering and it was supposedly coming from London! Let's hope the product is as good as the delivery service! Need to order some of those dog tether corkscrew things to secure it now.

Must go and get some work done now coffee is over and I have another task for the day.

Best wishes

Barbara

Hi Barbara :frow

No worries on the post, can you tell I dont do much gardening? :gig I cut the grass and that's it! How's it going with the tunnel? That is great delivery with it arriving so fast, good job I wasn't delivering it  I did get a Christmas bonus though for all my next day "Next" packets being delivered on time but they are just clothes/shoes etc no where near as a big as a poly tunnel! Next day delivery is why I have prime on Amazon, they do pretty much everything and I'm an addict on there

Hope your not rained off up there, the weather is awful down here today. Cold, wet and miserable :( Poor Harry has been carrying an extra 5 stone I think on his back with the big winter rug getting wet through. It sure took some hanging up to dry this afternoon and I'm sure he was pleased to get his nice quilted stable rug on.

Fingers crossed you have not had too many disagreements with the tunnel?

Catch you soon and have a fab weekend if I don't catch you before :highfive:

Kim xx
