UK Member Please Say HI

Nightmare couple of days. Hatched runners Thursday and all but two died. My cat gave birth and then became really ill so she's now on a expensive diet! My other runners are starting to pull the feathers from my chickens and I have found out that all my quail are males!! Happy Saturday :barnie

Hi, I'm really new to posting so please bear with me, I'm in the uk and I have 6 chickens which are around 6years old and 6 pekin ducks that are 9 weeks old one of them is disabled he was the last to hatch and he is slightly bent and twisted he can walk but falls over a lot onto his left side but he is a fighter and was not expected to live! he has defied all the odds and original expert option by getting up learning to eat, swim and walk none of which he was expected to do so he deserves a chance,
at the moment we are waiting on specialist help to enable him to walk better with less falls but in the meantime I'm am keeping him indoors, the problem I have is I need a duck nappy so he can come out of his cadge more often not just when he has a hydro sessions in the bath! can anyone suggest where I might be able to get some? and I'm also looking for a harness which I could adapt with a buffer so when he falls his wings are protected and he can get up again and go outside for a bit with his brothers and sisters.
hope someone might be able to help!
    Thanks :)

I'm looking for the same for mine. Hopefully someone will know!! Welcome :welcome

We had a batch of eggs, which at the time didn't know what they were. Any way, I think the majority were Polish, and they seemed to pip the wrong end... only one survived:hit.

We also used a cheap incubator (Janoel 12). Not sure if its the incubator or the breed. Would be interesting to know. Part of me is blaming myself for doing something wrong, but not sure what. These are our first chickens. Not sure what the other chick was (posted on another thread).

Romford by the way.... hello everyone!
Oh I'm sorry you lost them. Maybe the breed is a tricky one to hatch?
I borrowed my sister's incubator one year and had a terrible result too.
I couldn't keep a handle on the humidity and basically drowned the poor mites. I still feel bad about that now. And i know it wasn't the eggs because they were mine from the garden.
I've since bought a new incubator and had great hatches since!
I've seen your other post too - no idea on the breed but they are beautiful birds!!

I'm so sorry you've had a rubbish run of things. Will your cat be ok with the meds? And can you rehome/ sell the Quail at all or will you be able to keep them somehow?
I'm feeling your pain...:hugs

She seems to be getting better now slowly and the kittens are doing great thankfully. I've advertised them but had no offers as of yet! Pretty much all my quail have bald sore backs so I've sprayed a little wound spray and kept them in. Good news my ducks and polish chickens are sleeping outside for the first time tonight so far so good no noise coming from their pens so they must be sleeping :fl hopefully I'll get a full nights sleep tonight it's been a while!

Hi welcome to the thread and BYC! Wow he sounds like a fighter!
I'm not really up on ducks and nappies but I do know they are hard to find over here. Your only option maybe to get them posted from the US.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the chicken world! I'm in the South East and in the process of getting a run and coop sorted in hope to get 4hens. I'm with tried about red mite and the fact that when ever I mention I'm getting chickens people are very negative about it! They say they are a nightmare, smell and I'll get rats?
Any advice would be great!
Thanks
Laura

Hello and welcome!! I personally love having chickens they are such a lovely animal and I don't think they smell at all. They have great characters I could sit and watch them for hours! Also I haven't had rats I think if food is left out and you don't clean them out as much that would probably cause a rat situation. Now if we are talking about smelly birds I would say ducks smell way worse than chickens!!
