UK Member Please Say HI

Still no progress.. but I've been up since yesterday 1am, so 46 hours later and I'm seeing stars, so will take a break & get some sleep.

Would you intervene if 18 hours had passed since external pip and no further progress?
Crikey get some sleep. Aslong as it can breath it'll be ok! Maybe make the pip abit bigger to make sure

After some sleep, and then some watching, and then some panic this little one hatched earlier this morning !!
:ya
It was still attached to its shell when it was kicking the shell away and was bleeding. Cotton bud + cornflour was what I read to use. The bleeding has stopped and everything looks back to normal.
Thank you for your support.

It could breathe, and I had to just leave it. I did open the pip a little more and put in some wet kitchen roll !! Humidity went up to 85%

It had pipped nowhere near the air sac, or perhaps the airsac was very, very saddle shaped and I couldn't see the other side of it. Either way, happily everything turned out ok.
:celebrate
Sleep for everyone next I think :)

Aww congrats!! I was thinking about little one this morning I'm glad everything's ok. I appear to have sticky chicks! Stuck in their shells so looking like I'll have to assist. Thinking it had something to do with the heat last week as it made my humidity go all over the place :he

Oh No!
I read that sticky means you need to wash them before it sets like concrete.

I had one that was wrapped around the yolk so using my phone light I tried to see if I could find the head and make a hole. It took a really big breath so I think I got to that one in time. All the others have hatched not quite as perky as the first but it's tiring work. I'm no good with chicken breeds I'll have to google maran :lau

Well done you. Tiring for the chick as well as it's mama !

I'd love some dark coloured eggs, but they're tricky to hatch out (so it seems based on what I read)

Well update: the one wrapped around didn't make it. I didn't think it would but I thought I'd give it a chance. 2marans wobbling around the inc all nice and healthy. I have another that had a bloody navel so put some cornstarch on it and it seems abit better but not as lively as the others. So it seems I have 3 out of 5 (one died before internal pip) hoping their female as I'd like to keep
