I just had to cull one of the quails. First time. It was easier than I thought it would be, although the twitches are real.
It's just a shame because said quail wouldn't stop being aggressive and turned on the male and her fellow girls. Pecked one to bare skull...
When I hatched a load last year the males turned in a nightmare. I had to separate into groups that worked ie 1 male 5 females and everything that was left had to go. I had a hutch in the garage full off males that were just fighting. I ran out off space. That said I had a couple of females chasing each other and one kept jumping and split her head open on the top of the run. Not nice but I managed to fix her up with blue spray and calm. I had to move them about several times until I found the groups that worked! I didn't cull any I managed to sell them at auction. Such sweet birds but they can hard work and mean to each other when they want.

Well the eggs didnt sell, maybe i should hatch a few and take photos of them so people (and me) know what they look like. With regards to the pictures of my little guys above im just waiting for their mum to lay another egg and I will have 6 of those to sell.
You could put some pics with the chicks you have now. Could you cross silkies with Polish and try for a frizzle?! That would look amazing!

Is 7 weeks too young to give my little bantams treats? I gave them mealworms and they didn’t know what to do with them, not interested in banana and haven’t touched much mixed corn.
I’ve only given them little bits to try. They have a mix of chick crumb and growers pellets in their feeder.
It won't take them long to find out how good they taste! Then they will have your hand off for them! Mine like sweetcorn. I normally chuck some out for them when I let them out in the morning. Are you feeding them growers pellets?

Chick crumbs mixed with growers pellets, I’m weening them over the course of a week on advice from breeder x
