Hi I’ve been on BYC for 6 weeks and didn’t know about this thread. I’m in Dunoon Argyll. I’ve got 2 x 6 week CCL one roo, one pullet and a CCL/Black maran cross pullet who has a lovely wee CCL topknot. They are now in their outside coop and learning to deal with west coast Scotland rain. I also have 3 French copper marans. 1 black. 2 blue. 2 weeks. I hatched them all from incubator. I guess I hoped for 6 first time so decided to do it again and integrate sooner rather than later. This is the plan. The 3 new babies are Way more placid and docile and I’m convinced there is no bossy wee rooster in there, the difference is quite remarkable. I live in hope! We aim to keep our CCL rooster. He’s at this point super friendly. I also live in hope there!

Why do vet fees be so expensive? £40 for a consultation and a half course of antibiotics. £27 for a second consultation plus whatever I need for the rest of the flock! £15 for the prescription if I can get it cheaper online, it’s ridiculous. Has me bloody foaming.

Hi new people :)

5 years training, usual bricks and mortar costs etc. You wouldn't know what to order online without the vet's expertise. Plus no subsidies from govt for animal meds, and pharma companies really know how to screw the profit out of sickness, animal as well as human. Apparently there's a growing shortage of vets now thanks to uni tuition fees (9k x 5) on top of usual skyrocketing business rates etc; you might miss him/her when they've gone...
