Hello all!

This is my first post

I’m wondering if anyone can offer some advise? I have 7 beautiful Silkie chickens. We have just come to realise that 4 are definitely roosters. The lovely crowing in the morning is a big give away . We are looking to rehome them but don’t have a clue where to start. We obviously want them to go to good homes. We love them so very much but unfortunately can not keep them.
ANY advise would be much appreciated.
Also sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Thanks

Hello @SilkieStreet :welcome and welcome yo the UK thread. That's a bummer about having so many cockerals. I have had to rehome a couple this year. It's notoriously hard to rehome them. Have you tried one of the Facebook groups? But most of there ads are for cockeral rehoming. I don't have any silkies but @Fur-N-Fowl does. Maybe she could help. Silkies have quite a loyal following here. Check out this thread below and meet some more enthusiasts!

Welcome to BYC and the UK thread!
:welcome

I do keep Silkies but I also don't have room to keep anymore roosters in my flock.

I know many people will tell you to cull excess males but I'm guessing you rather not, don't worry neither do I.

I know I can sell my roosters at local auctions. Sometimes I get £5 sometimes I get £20!

I'd say it's worth a try you searching for your local bird auction. Of course, there is no guarantee what they will be used for by whoever buys them.

You could also advertise them on Preloved which is a half decent site!

Hi

Just getting back into keeping chickens. Finished the coop tonight and the run is secure. Still have more to make for the run but ready to pick up my lovely ladies tomorrow.

Not many places have many left. Most places do not get anymore in until next February. Luckily found a place in Kent with 19 to choose from.

So excited.

Good to find a thread for those of us in the UK.

I found someone via Preloved or Gumtree, cannot remember which, a few years back. I agreed to drop them off. Took two Roosters and came home with another 4 hens!!!.

I've never used Gumtree myself but I know others that have done with no issue. Preloved is my go to place for advertising my birds because it's so simple to use and for a years membership is only £5!

Advertising on Facebook isn't allowed anymore but we still post photos of our birds in groups and if anyone is interested they can always just send a message and ask about them privately.

It's great that you came home with four hens and managed to find your two roosters homes :celebrate

Question to all the fellow UK members here!

If any of you show, have you ever been to the National Poultry Show at Telford?

I don't show chickens. I've never been there. I might be starting to show pigeons though! I got a pair of Archangels from a lady at Newark NPA championship show yesterday. I've been trying to get some for ages. They are stunning :love the cockbird is just coming out of moult so looks a bit rough.
