UK Member Please Say HI

I keep little polish, my flock has dwindled to only 7 now. They are 9 years old. I’ve curbed my addiction as I got to 50 birds at one point when I was out of control and the incubator was always on

I pondered getting the incubator out again this year but I’ve changed jobs and don’t really have the time for chicks right now so maybe next year :fl
Polands are lovely little birds. Crevecouers have the same sort of hair-dos, though the cock birds' aren't quite as mad-scientist looking.
I know exactly what you mean about them getting out of hand! Our lad is getting the same way and I'm afraid I'm not much help, - I keep encouraging him. 😊 We DO have a purpose at least. So far, the farm has been pretty much a hobby for him, but we want to get it on a sound footing and the breeds we specialise in represent something of a niche in the market. Once the farm is in the black we can look at accomodation for the grandkids and their families.

Well the cats have settled in well! They are like Lord & Lady Muck! They even follow in the field when poo picking like dogs! Rat droppings are reduced already :woot
(Please excuse the mess it’s usually tidier! I had to order a new part for the strimmer!)

The first of the Barbezieux eggs have arrived with 2 broken and a bashed in tbe box😢😤. They were extremely well packed too, so not the sellers fault. They look really good eggs, proper shape, colour and well over the minimum recommended hatching weight for the breed. They'll go down to the farm today, settle for 24 hours or so and then go into a dry hatch? The bird is our LaFlêche cock Russell Crow.

He’s a nice stocky bird @MalSabreur :D Is he friendly?

That is a shame on your eggs. No care taken at the post office at all! :(

Did they come in the carton? I really like the polystyrene boxes for egg sending. They totally encase the eggs.

Young Russell Crow is about 10 months old, around 4 kgs and still growing. He is an absolute beast. The LaFlêche is a very tight feathered breed, so he's got more substance than appears.
The eggs weren't in polyboxes. They were PROPERLY packed. Kitchen roll, then egg boxes- 5 to a 10 egg box, then wrapped in bubble wrap. Then a 2 inch later of sawdust and finally a strong box. It's the best packed eggs I've ever received and the best way to protect fragile objects. Polyboxes are ok to prevent knocks but not repeated jolts The way these came protect against jarring. I send fragile packages around the World as part of my hobby, I also worked at a tackle shop where I despatched hundreds of breakable packages daily with no breakages save those caused by things like delivery drivers standing on them. I have another dozen coming. I want to order more from the man I got these from, assuming these hatch ok of course, so I'll ask him to send a couple more then.

Just popping in here to say Hi from East Sussex! I have ex commercial hens and have recently got Silver Appleyard ducks 😊 the heavy type not the miniature type. It’s unusual for me to get an animal that isn’t a rescue so these are my ‘precious’ pets! I might breed them one day once I’ve decided why to do with excess drakes.
