Yeah I've had to cull them as the injuries were to severe. It's been a very hard day it was all my quail that's one bird I will never get again!

she just found out they were all males so I'm guessing it started out who's the cock of the coop and turned in to a blood bath

I went to Carlisle Auction today

The prices were VERY high - £42 for a dozen of BCM hatching eggs!!!....

BCM we're really expensive at Melton market last weekend too. They must be the trend right now. Welsummer eggs were £12-£15 for 12, BCM were £30-£36 for 12.

Looks like you got yourself a nice pair of cream legbars. I hope she lays you some lovely blue eggs.

Thank you. They're more pale than I imagined-nearly white in fact. Does diet affect egg colour intensity?

It is quite normal for them to be a very pale blue and until you see them sat next to a white egg, it can be a bit disappointing, particularly if you are looking at them in bright sunlight. The shells generally have the most pigment in them at the start of their cycle and get paler as they get towards moult, but it may just be that your expectation was a little high. I know I've seen photos of unnaturally blue eggs here on BYC and wonder what type of filter or lighting people are using when they have taken the photo.
To my mind, if you get legbars you should also have some leghorns, so that there white eggs set your blue eggs off to best advantage. Some exchequer leghorns would make a very pretty addition to your flock Then you just need some Marans because the dark brown and pale blue look really pretty together and then of course you can start cross breeding for green and olive.

I think that's an amazing idea.

I went to the auction with Marans or Legbar on my shopping list-but the Marans were just too expensive !

I probably have room for 10 in the current set-up, so still space for a few more
