Hi, tomorrow is the day I get my babies I’m so excited! I’ve got everything ready (I think!) and put the bedding in the coop. I have read they should stay in the coop on arrival until the next morning but I couldn’t bare not to see them, will they be ok if I put them straight in their run then pop them in the coop once it starts getting dark?
And will they need food or water in the coop overnight?

How exciting I’m sure they will be fine if you put them in the run. If the coop door is open they may even venture in for a look. You won’t need to put food/water in the coop unless you are going to leave them in there for a prolonged period during dayLight hours. When it’s dark they only roost/sleep.

The coop door will be open and I have an automatic door opener for the mornings so they’ll be able to get out for a drink if they’re up before me. That’s good they won’t need it in the coop as I was thinking that the waterer is quite big and would likely take up a lot of space in the coop and get the bedding wet.
Starting to worry about them already and I haven’t even met them yet! haha!

Sounds like you are all set

I only have small coops and no way could I fit feeders & drinkers in there. They manage just fine being locked up at bed and let out first thing. The bird shooing at 10pm in pj’s & wellies can be fun though There is always one of mine on patrol right until last orders at night!

Haha! I’m going to have to put them to bed for a while until they learn, aren’t I? Lol. I’ll keep the automatic door closer switched to manual at night for a while or they’ll likely get locked out of their house!!!

Highly likely yes that they will need to be cooped trained. I’ve had the odd one or two that have gone straight in which has been a plus but others who have taken a few weeks to figure out the bedtime routine. All part of the fun and on the plus side they are much quieter at dusk.

Lovely to hear you are enjoying your silkies! My friend used to keep some for her children and they were lovely little birds. How many do you have?
