Sillies are supposed to be good broodies I believe so I think I will get some of them too . My local breeder has fertile silkies eggs.

Evening all!
Hope everyone is well, been a good while since I was last on here and a lot has happened ^_^
My Scots Grey chicks are having an amazing time outside, loving every minute of it. Plus, as of today, I have hatched my first two Welsh Harlequin ducklings! There are still 4 in the incubator that have pipped, one of them looks a bit dry though :/ it pipped on Thursday alongside the other two that hatched today, but hasn't made anywhere near as much progress. I can hear it peeping away inside and t keeps rocking, but it seems to be struggling a little. Thinking I may give it another day or so and see how it does.

@rebrascora are you out there? Hope all is well both with your beasties and feathered friends. All quiet here really and the Pekin and Wyandottes are doing good. Some Pekin are pretty red now so I'm guessing they are boys. Got a buyer for the females and the Wyandottes so may get another hatch in before the end of summer

It's all hatched out, so we have 5 ducklings now there is a 6th egg but it stopped moving and hasn't pipped...don't think we are going to get anything out of it sadly

I don't suppose anyone has any experience with hatching ducks do they? I'm guessing it's similar in some respects to hatching chickens, but I've just had a duckling hatch within the last few minutes, and I can already see that it hasn't absorbed all of its yolk sac, and so its umbilical area hasn't sealed yet. I'm going to let it dry out in the incubator before taking it out, but would I be right in thinking I just treat it with iodine like I would a chick? Just don't want to leave it too long in the incubator and it end up getting infected.

That's the best I can get I'm afraid. It's not fluffing up very quickly, should I leave it in the incubator overnight or put it in with its siblings

That does not like yolk sac, so could be a hernia maybe or just the fact the navel has not fully closed yet. If it were me I would take some water out of the incubator to lower the humidity a bit and leave it in there to dry off. Do you have any other eggs ready to hatch or is the last one to hatch?

There is one egg left but I think it's a none starter, it moved a bit when the others were popping but there has been no movement from it the last few days, and it hasn't pipped itself yet either. I've opened the air vent so that the humidity should go down overnight, it's not particularly high in there anyway, which is why I think this little one might have struggled a bit, it's membrane became very dry and rubbery this morning but it still seemed to get out ok. Do you think it will get better overnight? I don't want to put it in with the others in case they start pecking it and it bleeds, they are very inquisitive at the moment.
