I've been bad again and not ridden for a couple of weeks. Lots of things going on with work but I'm hoping all that will be in the bag soon
Eggs in the incubator and the hatch a long contests/thread so I've been pretty busy with one thing and another. Plus we had a cat show up on Saturday which seems to be staying for now. Can't find a lost one matching his description anywhere and the RSPCA came round to scan him and he does not have a chip. Not sure if we will keep him or not but for now he's staying. I'm hoping his owners come forward. Charlie has named him "Dave" He is beyond friendly like a pest wanting attention all the time so he must be someone's. He's making himself at home, a little too much at home!

My polish eggs have not been so good on the fertility but I'm putting that down to the cockerel being young and not that clever with the ladies. Only 6/9 are fertile and the 2 from the Amber that's in with him look clear too The goose eggs have shocked me though and 2/3 look fertile. They are awhole different ball game to the chicken eggs so we shall see how they progress

Nice birds, I'm not sure on breeds but they look to have slight crest? I can't think of that breed that has smaller crest?
Looks like you have two cockerels though, the two with the red combs. How old are they?

​The carton hatching option looks like a fantastic idea, If I can get cardboard cartons small enough do you think I should try it with the quail?
Or maybe even laying them next to a rolled up kitchen towel, so when they peck to get break the eggshell all the force is going forward and not rolling them back?
If you understand what I mean, you can direct more force forward when you're braced against something solid?
What do you think?

I've not done quail in cartons as I feel the cartons even if they were cut down would be too big. My quail did fine hatching on their sides randomly placed in the incubator. Once they started hatching they knocked all the eggs about and did just fine

How r u all coping with the bird flu situation with your chickens? Anyone in a high risk area? We are about 10 miles from a high risk area.

Just seen the high risk area is now 5 miles away, so it's getting closer.

I'm right on the line of a high risk area, in fact the line goes through our village. I've been letting my birds out though in the garden as being penned up was driving them batty.
