UK pigeon owners

she did take her time to return before.
When I first start training a flock of young birds I have a reward awaiting them on there landing ramp. Shelled unsalted peanuts enough to feed maybe half the flock on a good day. It gets them down to buisness for the return flight after the first or second release.

Boomer just got back! I think I'll keep loft flying her. 11 hrs to fly 6 miles! I don't like to say I've been a little worried but I have! And I think I'm gonna need a sputnik trap. She doesn't seem to like the drop down hatch on this one. She always lands on top and seems to struggle to jump down. I'm just glad she's back!

Glad to hear that! :highfive:
Of course you were worried, she's your best girl!
Last night one of my 3 ybs didn't return to the loft - I thought he was gone.
This am about 9 he was back at the loft...no idea where he spent the night. They still haven't done any serious flying.

The first time I released boomer when I was trying to get her to return to her original owner she spent the night out. She came back first thing the next morning! I'd love to get a tracker and see where they go when they do a flit! I'm just wondering if she may have been sat out of the sun somewhere all day. It's been so hot here recently.

She might have got back quickly and sat around just out of your eyesight. I think it's so great she picked you and is staying loyal!
Aloha Pigeons has a youtube vid of those trackers, did you see? The bird has to come back to download the data tho.
Did you treat her with her fav sunflower seeds when she got back?

Of course! Which reminds me, I'm running a little low on supplies! I have to get some feed on Monday so I'll grab a bag. Have you tried them yet?
I just wish that she would come and sit on my head like yours! That would be the icing for me! She is such a sweet little bird. I'm trying to gain trust in the lil' ones but I'm still getting clicked at!

The one that lands on my head is Doo, his moms moved away to a new box when he was 12 days(ik, ik, i've told this before. lol) but that is why he is so attached - hand fed for a week plus. There will probably be a time you have to hand feed one and that is the reward for your trouble. Sean from Aloha Pigeons mentions taking a squab to hand feed just to make it super tame. In general i prefer the parents do their job.

Anyway, the birds born in your loft will be much calmer around you than your bought ones. I really try to interact, play, pet the babies when they start getting more feathers and are curious about everything, even me.

I still have a full bag of BOSS with shells on, no time to peel* them yet. lol (they will sometimes eat a few with the shells on) Luckily mine adore chopped peanuts - similar fat content and nutrition.

*eta considering smashing the BOSS in my molcajete and letting them pick through for the meats.

I had to post a picture of this little beauty!

It was doing its best not to have its photo taken! But I think it's going to be a beautiful bird!
