Well, my big ol' Orp rooster has been steadily loosing weight. When I got him, he was a good 20-25 pounds. Now he barely has anything on him. I don't know what could be wrong with him. I've wormed him with Ivermectin, and he has a good diet. Anyone have any ideas..? I hate seeing any of my birds like this. Especially a big boy like him.

Wow, first thing I would think of was worms. Can you isolate him in a cage so you can see if he's eating and see what his poops are like? Poor guy........If you could also feel him over.....to see if his belly area feels normal.......might be something internal that you just can't help......

Good luck with him! So sorry to hear that.

Since you wormed him with ivermectin, worms are no longer a reason for weight loss. It'll take time for him to regain his weight after worming. Heat will cause chickens not to eat as often, stress due to the heat, moulting, lice/mites, worming, etc... will all cause weight loss. Feed him plain yogurt or buttermilk as probiotics and scrambled eggs for extra protein mixed in his feed to make a mash and give it to him. Do this for several days, it will help build his immunity, but not necessarily put his weight back on. I personally believe the heat is having an effect as my chickens have slacked off eating as well. Good luck.

Mites/lice can also cause weight loss, but the ivermectin should have taken care of them, too.

I think you need to do a fecal float test on him--just to be sure that the worms are not back.
