Greetings

My chick hatched and was still tied to the yolk in the egg. He was dragging the egg shell around and the string (umbilical cord) finally snapped. What should I do?! Should I give him immediate access to external food and water? I don't want to open the incubator because another chick is making its way to hatching, his beak and some of his body are exposed so I don't want to try him out!\

Thank you for your time

Did you actually see yolk in the egg? I've had chicks with a cord or membrane or something drag a shell half around a while, then it just breaks off and they're fine. They've absorbed the yolk and don't need to eat or drink for at least a day or so. I just assumed it's a normal thing. I think if the yolk wasn't absorbed there's not much you can do for it.

Thanks for the welcome :D.

I am not entirely sure if it was the yolk, it was a gooyey yellow sack, any ideas?

Post a pic but I am sure that it's normal did it look a bit like this if yes then that is totally normal
It looked similar :) He is better now, we were able to get him to the brooder so it's up to him to eat and drink and all the other stuff :)
