Un-attached aircells

I lost another egg a day or tow ago, so I am down to four eggs. Lockdown is tomorrow night for me too. I will probably keep them in the carton but I am very nervous about keeping the large ends straight up. Would they be better at an angle? I am getting nearly 100% hatch rate with my own eggs with them resting on their sides.

I have read that if your eggs are shipped and their air sacs were damaged, be sure to hatch them in cartons with the large end up. I have used egg cartons on all my shipped egg hatches with good luck. Even had a good outcome with a chick pipping low and hatching upside down! Took him a little longer to figure out how to get out of his shell since his feet were sticking up in the air!!

Just curious, but how are eggs shipped? Do they come in cartons only? or packed with packing peanuts or what?

Everyone seems to have their own ideas about how best to ship eggs! I have bought shipped eggs from three different sources and all came packed differently

First ones came packed in sawdust in the egg carton that was then wrapped with packing tape to keep them from moving, then the carton was placed in a box surrounded with wadded up newspaper~great hatch out of that shipment! 9 out of 15 hatched. Second batch of eggs came individually wrapped in bubble wrap and them put in a box with wadded up newspaper around them~they are in my incubator due June 2nd (8 out of 15 eggs still growing) Third batch was wrapped individually in bubble wrap then put in an egg carton with bubble wrap top and bottom, but not on the sides and the egg carton was too tight from side to side and three eggs were broken! They are in my incubator due June 10th and out of 15 eggs only 4 look like they are growing

Did you leave them with the large end pointing directly up or at an angle? For me to get this far I must be doing something right since I normally would have just tossed them. They were really scrambled.

I am down to four eggs that look like they are going to hatch IF all goes well. No pips yet but some activity. I really think setting them with the large end upwards made the difference. How is everyone else doing? Any pips yet?

Here is a picture of how I set them in the egg carton for hatching. Sometimes a picture is better than words

Thanks for posting the photo, chickee. That is how I have my cartons set up. My mind is at ease now.
