Are you buying dyed chicks like the one in your avatar? Are you in the U.S.? Are the chicks all coming from the same source?

Since this has happened so many times I would wonder if some sort of toxin is getting at them. Maybe something in your flat. Do you cook with non-stick pans a lot?

I have not heard of giving chicks sugar water with garlic, where did the garlic idea come from? That is definitely toxic to some animals. Did you verify that it is safe for chicks?

WElcome to BYC. So sorry to hear about your problems.

I would suggest posting in the Emergencies and Diseases section of the Forum, there are many people there with experience in sick birds. Some things they will want to know -

Did you get all your chicks from the same source?

Did you feed them from the same batch of feed? What kind of feed is it, and where did you get it?

How are you housing them? Are you using a lamp for heat? If so, what kind of bulb are you using?

Good luck

i live in 3rd world country Pakistan with no better facilities available like medicines for chicks and medicated feed etc. Only dyed chicks are available in my area and i buy them from same market and yes non stick pan is used by my mom. And i heard from some people around me that garlic is useful when chicks became sick i dont know if its safe or not!!. i feed them millet boiled rice and some sort of feed available in market for chickens. its summer here 32C to 34C so i dont use heating source! i use small cage for keeping them.

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your chicks. It sounds like either the dye is toxic or something else is causing them to become sick. They could also be suffering from coccidiosis as well, but since you have no options for medications, I am not sure how you would treat this. Are you keeping them under a brooding lamp? I really just dont' know. I wish I had more information for you. I am so sorry.

It is hard to say what they are really using to dye the chicks which would worry me. One would think if the dye were toxic it would kill them quickly but who knows.

The non-stick pan question relates to teflon coatings, birds are super sensitive to the fumes created by over-heated teflon and will die quickly if they get that stuff in their lungs. If all of yours are dying around the 2-3 week mark I would think it is something else that is slowly killing them.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your chicks. That is a tough one. Do you know what is in the feed you are giving them? Millet and rice are both pretty low in protein, are the chicks getting grit? Vitamins?

Alright

great to have you joining the BYC flock

Maybe you should get 6 chicks so they can keep each other warm
in the evening as these are young chicks and it sounds like they
are not getting enough heat in the evening and after week 10 just
sell the ones you do not want ......

Your feed is really not the greatest for arising chicks as they need
a lot of protein to help them grow and I do give cooked rice to my
adult chickens but just as a filler in their regular feed but not really
for chicks ....

Do you have a photo of your Brooder so we can loot at what you
have to work with ...

Is it also possible for you to get some egg's to boil up in water
and peal then mash up and serve to your chicks for the protein
they so badly need ...

My brooder, and I have been using it for many years ...

Actually I got the brooder in 1997 ......
