UNANSWERED POSTS

Lol...sorry that last line was too funny to pass up! Hit the quote tab, if you do not want the whole quote, you can delete anything between the quote /quote marks. I'm going to remove some of your quote then post this. As far as how they do the multiple quote thing, someone with more knowledge than this old lady is going to have to explain that process.

Ive noticed that actually. Sometimes I HAVE done a search on something particular and still didn't find what I was looking for. There have been times that some "nasty" comments have been made bc "oldtimers" get annoyed with ppl asking a question they deem as over asked or ignorant or whatever...it's happened to me!

Sometimes it's best to just read and not ask. I still have tons to learn but if I feel I can answer a question or give some input, I will.

The search function is helpful, but it sometimes gives TOO MANY results, and it's difficult to sift through to find the ones you're looking for. When I'm searching google, I like to look at google's cache, so I can quickly see if a page will be helpful to me because the words I was looking for are highlighted. I"ve looked for posts before to link to or show someone and have simply not been able to find them--and I consider myself an old timer!

I don't have a lot of time on BYC, but the ones I don't bother to answer here are often ones that aren't a real emergency... the ones that start "OMG! My chick/chicken has a tumor on its neck!" That has been asked a million times--it's the crop.

If I see an unanswered post that is a real emergency--someone needs first aid advice or something--it doesn't really matter to me that they can find it elsewhere with a search. It's not like I'm going to punish the poor chicken because the person is panicked or doesn't know how to use the search feature. If I see it in that case, I'll answer it. I'll also tend to answer ones that get answered, but where I think people may be missing something. If a chick is panting and everyone says to get the baby on antibiotics for a respiratory ailment immediately, I may suggest just checking and lowering the brooder temperature instead.

Everyone is so knowledgeable here, though, there are very few cases where an emergency isn't answered, even if it's just with well wishes and good thoughts.

For me, it more when there are three or four threads in one section that say, "Why aren't my hens laying?!?!" or something like that.

I know that sometimes the search funtion is overwhelming because I still use it to find answers!

I've tried to help as many people as I can. Last year, it seemed that this forum had mostly inexperienced chicken keepers on it and I wanted to help. This year, there are more experienced chicken keepers and even more new people! Wow, is it ever busy here!

I note with some irony, that the one and only time I asked a question on this forum, earlier this year, it went unanswered.

True... sometimes the search function brings up so many threads, and some of them are very long (35 pages!) It's hard to wade through them for the one thing I wanted.

just saw this post...I am not going to read the entire thread but I will add that I too am amazed at how many questions go unanswered.

I have had quite a few posts that I really hoped would help me learn and answer my issues but no one helped out. Oh well...

Cyber world is not all its cracked up to be.

I think you've pretty much summed up BYC, and you also have a really good handle on the whole "internet forum" experience.

People have to want a community to be successful in and invest themselves in it in order for it to work out. This concept works in real life as well as online.

BTW,

and I think you'll fit in quite well here.

Thanks... I appreciate that.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I was accused of "not caring" about other people's "issues" just four days after joining one group. I guess because I had not yet responded to any of their distress posts.

go figure...

I am pretty certain we all did out part. Some can only sign on so much during the day, so yeah. I mean, this is such a great forum and I am positive that any question will be answered promptly. Of course, if it urgent, those get replied to much faster. : )
Good luck
