Unbalanced and Lethargic Hen

She was only a couple months old when I got her. She didn't even have a tail yet! And she had just turned six when she passed away. I'm honestly not sure if that is old or not, because I haven't gotten a straight answer on what her lifespan would be like. Regarding getting more birds, usually the county fair in my area has a bunch of chickens for sale and people usually sell pairs from the same flock. They sometimes have chicks and that's what I'm hoping for. Stores like Tractor Supply and other feed stores sell chicks, but there's always a minimum of six and I can only have up to five, and I only want up to two in the house at a time, so that isn't an option unfortunately. Last year there were no poultry events because of the big outbreak of bird flu, but hopefully things will be back to normal this year.

Hi my four week old bantam chicken just recently started to act tired and doesn't want to walk around at all is doing this thing that looks like gaging... My chickens haven't been outside so no exposure to any outside stuff...

I understand they don't want people just buying one as a pet when they have no idea how to take care of them. Since they sell them in spring, a lot of people would love to bring a little chick home as an Easter present or something, so it makes sense that they only want to sell to people that are serious about having chickens. At the same time, it's difficult for people looking for a smaller number of birds. And I think that owning chickens is like owning a dog in a way. As much as you don't want to "replace" one that passes away, there's plenty more that are waiting for a home. I'm sure Daisy would want me to give more chickens the same love I gave her

Is it only one that's behaving that way? If they all are, it could be something contagious. I'm not an expert by any means, but I would keep that one separate to make sure nothing spreads to your other birds and to make sure the others don't pick on the sick one.

I'm glad that Lilybug had a good day. I hope she has many more. I hope that the site will continue to help, but it's good that she seems like she WANTS to live. That's a good sign. I don't think that she will be losing that determination for many years to come. I hope everything goes well with getting your new chickens DaisyBird. I'll try to keep up, thanks guys. Other then her breathing Lilybug is still very bright and energetic.I'm a little upset with the vet though because I'm waiting on results on a test from April 5th and still no results.I spent a lot of money and this test could be the answer to her breathing problem...instead she is suffering while they take their time with a lot of my money!

VACATION!!!!! I certainly could use one! LOL! I live in Georgia and am hoping to maybe go to the ocean this summer. Believe it or not I've never been to the ocean! I've heard Texas is having flooding issues.Hope you're not in that area.If so be careful, but have TONS of fun!!!!!

I agree with Daisy wanting you to love others like you loved her.So don't think you are "replacing" her!You could NEVER do that!!!You are simply helping another baby in need! When we lose a baby we always pick a very nice picture of them, buy a pretty frame and hang it up so we can still see them everyday!Not only are they like owning a dog they each have their own personalities like dogs do. They may be a little extra work but they are totally worth it.I truly do hate how people buy chicks for Easter presents because 9 times out of 10 the chick is given because they are cute and not because that person wants one.So who knows if they get the proper love and care they need and deserve.So make sure to get some babies(if you truly want them) because it is comforting to know they will have a wonderful,loving home!

I had her cremated and put in a nice little urn. The color sort of has a marble effect to it, and one splash of color looks like a chicken footprint so I thought that one was very fitting! I have dozens of pictures of her, so she will never be forgotten I really hope I can get some babies! There's another feed store in my area that sells chicks so I'll have to see if they have a maximum limit to how many you can get and when they'll have them available.
