uncle dick’s grammar lesson

in that example the car is the subject of the sentence, making john and me the objects. therefore, you use “me”.
Yeah, it still just sounds wrong though cause I always heard it was supposed to be and I no matter what 😭🤣
Examples of correct usage:

I played soccer.
Jim and I played soccer.
Tom played soccer with me.
Tom played soccer with Jim and me.
The one I bolded is where it sounds weird to me. I know it’s technically “right” but I still feel like it should be Jim and I because I’ve been so conditioned that it should be 😂🤣

Like I know “me” is right but I was always told “JiM aNd I” you know? 😂🤣
i know exactly what you mean.

every well-intentioned parent drills “jim and i” into their child because the first thing kids usually say is “me and jim”

unfortunately they never explain the rest of it, and that’s all that ends up sticking.

When my kids said, "Me 'n Adam ..." I would say, "I don't think Adam is mean! What did Adam do that was mean?" They would look confused and start over, saying the same words again, and I would repeat what I said. In this way I would train their ear to hear what they were saying. Then I would correct them. "Do you mean, 'Adam and I'?" But like @TheDawg says, you also have to teach them when "Adam and me" is the correct choice. Anytime "me" is right, then (other person) and me is right.

Yeah, the and I part definitely sticks alright! 😂😭🙈 love the mean thing though 🤣

I think we do well to remember, OP, that this is a global forum. As such, there are many here for whom English is not their first or even primary language. How well would we Americans do if visiting, say, a French forum, in managing to communicate accurately in French? The purpose of this forum is to share chicken-related and other information. It's my conviction that if people can do that fairly well, and make themselves understood, then the mechanics of language are inconsequential. There are other venues for teaching the mechanics of language, so let's not be too critical of our non-English speaking members. 😉
