It doesn't hurt to boil the water. If it is for some other reason. But chickens by the time they are 2 weeks old can handle almost any level of salmonella or Guardia. Those are the big reasons humans boil water.
The water department didn't maintain the required standards for a short time, and there isn't anything they can tell you to do besides boil. Others have point out also that boiling will make this problem that they are concerned for worse not better. I would say that some worker was reading out of a manual.
I sell my eggs to a man with health issues and wouldnt want to make him sick so thats why I came to ask my friends on BYC! Thanks for quickly responding! I will probably just wait a week or two to sell him anymore eggs! He is waiting for a double lung transplant! Has a rare disease that usually kills you in less than six months but has completely stunned all the doctors by living so long! I wouldnt want to cause harm!
Especially since it says that ...Turbidity is a measure of suspended particles inyour drinking water. It has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. It may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches.
It is possible that after additional testing that the only thing that was found was the very slight manganese increase. So with that I wouldn't worry about it. I would maybe worry more that your friend would buy store bought eggs. I am fairly certain that with the recent outbreak of Salmonella in commercial eggs that yours are much safer. I would hazard a guess that a commercial egg producer will not boil their water for the chickens in their care. I would ask your friend what he would prefer. But I am sure that your eggs are safer for him.
Please be careful!!! The flip side to needing more manganese is manganese poisoning. My grandfather has it. He went from being literally a genius (he has over 21 patents) to having dementia/alzheimers symptoms and to top it all off parkinsons symptoms as well. He cant even use the bathroom by himself or say a sentence that makes sense. Also they have no cure once it happens. If it were me nothing alive at your place would be drinking that water. Please don't drink the water. I literally got a stomach ache from the post saying it has high levels of manganese.
I can understand the heartache of watching a loved one die from a preventable thing like manganese poisoning, but it appears that you must inhale it, in order to cause the levels required to cause brain damage. I don't get how a slight increase in the water will be fixed by boiling the water for 3 minutes. I would still think that all that would do is increase the level left in the water.
