Underground RR Quilt Block

katsdar the babies and the little family are doing very well. They now look all plump and juicy and are over 10 lb each. We are all so grateful. Going to help an other daughter soon who is due with just one baby.

Lacy Blues I was picturing blocks with a color scheme like the ones in this picture-
http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Strategies-Block-swap-Quilts-Patchwork/dp/1564778584
Is that too bright? A home decor feel and colors like maybe Jenny Byer.

I love the block you posted LacyBlues. I am just not sure if I can make it as it looks a little harder.

Chickens with no feathers because of how they were treated. Indeed that is sad.

Lacy Blues,

I like the block very much but I'm not sure I'm up for doing twelve of them. They are quite complicated, a lot of triangles. However, I'll go along with whatever everyone else wants.

@Lacy blues I printed that block I have a valenting project I'm going to try to do for my son and his girl, I want to put a picture of the two of them in that block and then turn it into a quillow. Quillow instructions
or here for more instructions http://ludlowquiltandsew.co.uk/2013/12/how-to-make-and-fold-a-quillow/

Here are some block suggestions, we have done in the past summer colors, green and white, blue and yellow, earth tones, harvest colors, and some have done winter, so what color combination would we like to do?

this one would use a jelly roll (2.5 inch strips) http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StreakofLightningBlock.html

Using 10" (layer cakes) squares to make squares
http://quiltingtutorials.com/all/mail-layer-cake-friendly-quilt-project/ my color suggestion for this would be like a red and tan, red and white, guess I'm thinking valentines day

more ideas to come

I'm not suggesting we start using layer cakes or jelly rolls, I am only using these block ideas for the ease of strip size and cuts,
now I have another brain wave, what about this suggestion in this tutorial, it is an I spy block, and I could get the background fabric, send it to our blockers and you just pay me back when you ship the blocks, that way we all have the same back ground, I'm not saying go out and buy a layer cake either, just fill your jar anyway you want to, we would have to decide on how many jars to make and what size, this could be for a future swap since it would take a few weeks to get the supplies to each of who sign up. anyway take a look at this clip and tell me what you think.

also another quilt that turned out really nice is one I did that used 10" and 5" squares, you center the 5" in the middle of your 10" sew the 5" a 1/4 to an 1/8 in yes you will have raggy edges, you want this, now cut the whole block into four (cut in half then cut in half again) now mix up your blocks and sew them back into a 10" square (the edges will not line up perfectly and that is ok, this is a rustic quilt when washed the edges curl and finish off the rustic look.

I like cream and red but find it hard to find those colors. The reds tend to be orange in base and the cremes too white.

I also like the 5 inch square and the 10 inch square but do we need to buy the ruler? I am a bit OCD, obsessive compulsive, so I am sure I would need the ruler. Hahahaha... I do like the Kansas Trouble colors and the primitive feel of the quilt.

The only colors I am not big on are white and pink, larger quantities,or anything fluorescent. The white just doesn't work for this large farm family.

I like the 5 and dime pattern and also the I spy one.
I agree with Anna6 on colors I'm not a fan of pink, red, pure white, or fluorescent.
I do like the off white and light tans, like we put in this quilt.

I think we should do the four patch chain. It's a block that every one can do, the more colours the merrier! Or we could limit the colour scheme, greens and yellows, blues, neutrals, any would work as long as the Chain is white. Do feel that we will probably need 24 blocks , if not 36 blocks each to make a quilt so this could be the next two or three swaps. 36 blocks would make a quilt 72 ins square.
