Understanding Chicken Math

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread! My hubby understands chicken math. We just started with 4 two year old laying hens in mid March and bought a coop that is the perfect size for just those 4. That week he came hike for lunch one day and I was out watching the ladies in their run. He walks around the corner and starts measuring. I asked what he was doing........"checking to see how big of a coop we can build over here". I ordered 4 black sex link chicks that afternoon from the local fees store. They arrived after Easter.

Yesterday we were making the list of building materials we will need and he went out and measured again......"have to see just how big we can make this". . I love my husband!!!! My plan is 2 (or 4? ) more pullets next year and 2 (or 4?) the following year and by that time our original 4 ladies will need to start being replaced . And all because my hubby went out and measured

Hubs acts like a grumpy old man. Mumbles and curses while we are working on the coop and run. But then tells me he noticed that the chicks are growing and changing. The ones at home are a week old today. If he wasn't interested, he wouldn't be noticing. I have 26 chicks total, but I think I could tell him I have 23 and he wouldn't know the difference cause they are too fast to count. Plus half of them are still at sister-in-laws house. So that means I can get at least 3 more right?

I got the Rainbow layer package from McMurray. I got 6 EE"s, 7 brown leghorns, 3 white leghorns and a new Hampshire red. Plus the mystery chick. 17 total no loss. Rooster lives in house for noise control( Doesn't lay eggs) doesn't count. only 1 EE lays blue eggs others are Cream. so only 1 EE. the leghorns lay white eggs, but since they're the same breed I only have 2 and the NH red. so in all the 3 Light Bahamas & 3 Cuckoo marons I just bought bring me to a total of 6 as I see it.

I went to the feed store today and couldn't resist getting a Silver Laced Wynadotte as a companion for my other lonely chick. The store just got them in and didn't have a barcode to scan for them so they rang the chick up as a retaining wall block, which was the same price. So my receipt says I bought a block, not a chick... so it doesn't count.

So my receipt says I bought a block, not a chick... so it doesn't count.
