Understanding Chicken Math

Just wanted to share my good fortune. Hubby sent me this text after I told him we had to extend the run... '' your chicken crazy. Good thing though. I like it. ''

I'm not sure if he caught the message right before it that I was planning to pick up some BCM! Haha

I have had chicken math blow up in my face. I lost one of my silkies today due to neighbors dog I told hubby ( of course I was devastated) he says well the silkies are bantam right I said yes he asks it is ornamental I say yes what is your point my chicken is dead he said well since it is a bantam and ornamental it doesn't count as a chicken in your chicken math. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU CRAZY MAN I wanted to throw something at him. So since it doesn't count I may get 10 more to replace it

So today on kijiji while looking for some silky hens to buy I found an add about a 10 month old Leghorn, a child's playhouse that had been converted into a coop, and a 50 pound bag of feed for $15!
Just the feed would sell for that much and so I am getting a coop and a chicken for free! The coop was built for 4 chickens but a racoon got the other 3. We need more room for our chickens anyways and were planning on building a little coop for them this weekend. Now we don't have too....so that means this chicken doesn't count right? Since I am buying the feed and getting the hen and coop for free?

that's right, especially since she'll need to be kept separate from your flock preferably for one month or longer lol.

I have an old dog kennel I am going to set her and the coop up in and since I have WAY too many cockerals I am going to risk one and put it in with her for company that or I have a pullet that gets bullied a lot that I will put in with her.
