Understanding white...

They appear White to me. However, it looks like the babies may be carrying both gold and silver as some are more of a bright (silver) white and others are a muted (gold) white. Think LED versus incandescent bulbs. So you may have babies that are both dominant and recessive white.

That's interesting! Dominant and recessive white - how would that look if crossed with black Australorps?

I believe Dominant White crossed onto Black will give you birds that are predominately white with some black leakage, similar to Paint Silkies.

They are white, but while dominant white is always yellow or white, recessive white can be a variety of muted shades. The ashy color of the chicks is caused by recessive white, likely on black.

Thanks very much for the information! So interesting - but complicated lol

The recessive white could also be masking blue, my white cochins are recessive white and when bred to blacks produce blacks and blues. I also used recessive whites to produce brown reds and brown cochins, interesting huh?

Blessings,

Bo
