Unexpected hatching - help!

I saw delightful pūkeko chicks at the lake today, and thought of your wee one. Mama pūkeko was looking worn ragged, with some very frayed tail feathers in particular, so I took pity on her and fed her some of the poultry food I happened to have in the car at the time. She ate a lot, but did not appear to see it as suitable food for the chicks. She left them in a hollow nearby before she ate her fill.

On a bit of a tangent, I was quite relieved that my very full new sack of poultry food didn't spill on the way home, after opening it to take out a tiny bit for the waterfowl. I usually only open them when I am ready to transfer the contents to a metal feed bin.

How cute! Tahi is doing really well and has gone from 25 grams one week ago to 60 grams! I'm hoping to have the chicks hatch soon so she will have some company when I'm at work. I have to agree that pukeko are quite cool birds, I love the giant feet and the blue feathers! Can't wait until my baby is all grown up :D

Sadly there is no updates on the eggs yet. If tomorrow morning (24 hrs after the later pips) still nothing happened, I will candle for movement and maybe see if I can make an air hole just for breathing. Hopefully they'll all be alive by then, I would be devastated if they died! Especially since the air cells made a big improvement on the very last day and look normal now!

One pipped on it's own this morning, one pipped below the air cell and one stopped moving completely without pipping, so for those two I went with the safety hole @Pyxis recommended in their article. The lifeless one is moving and tapping against the shell now, but no zips yet.
:fl

@Texas Kiki how long would you reckon until I should be worried? They still haven't made other pips and I don't want to check for movement because I don't want them to shrink-wrap by taking them out :hmm it's been about 12/15 hrs (one each) since I made the safety hole and checked last, and one and a half days since they internally pipped.

I tend to give them about 24 hours from the time I make the safety hole and then if there's still no progress, I usually start further assisting.
