Put some coconut oil on a q-tip and smear that on all the dry membrane you can see, it will soften it up.

No, it's still peeping frequently. However, the membrane is fitted tightly onto the chick, as you can see in the picture. I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like this. You can still see the veins, but they look pretty dried up as well. Still, I'm not sure if it's ready for help yet...

I've never even heard of the word Pukeko before.

Give me a bit to look it up.


I'm not sure how long their incubation period is and if they take days to get out of the shell or not.

It has now been 12 hours since I discovered the pip. However, I haven't been home for almost three hours. I'm gonna go check asap.

They have 23-28 days incubation.
