unhatched baby chicks

what a day of drama. The chick finally hatched, but then skipped off the towel and fell to the bottom of the oven. Thank god she missed the pan of water and we had turned the oven off about a half hour before because we thought it was too hot so she did not get hurt. We put herin a box and back into the oven, but she was very active flipping around and peeping so we put her back with the hen and other chicks, so far so good keep your fingers crossed. The other one seems to be slowing down, no air holeyet, but she is still alive so maybe just a day behind. I hope we don't end up cooking her in the oven, I didn't think she would have to be in there so long. All this happened amid our outside chicken getting attacked by our brother's dog, but she is also alive and I think ok, but her leg is hurt, however that didn't stop her from laying an egg about three hours after being attacked. What a day.

Unbelievable...hatching in an oven. I've heard it all...Congrats!

Nothing yet from the other egg, but the ppeps are getting stronger and louder so I have hope. Our chicken Blackie that was attacked by the dog is going to be fine. She was up walking around and went back into the coop with the other birds this evening, it looks like her thigh has most of the damage, but nothing to serious just probably very sore. The now 14 chicks are so cute I can't believe it. Our hen is an old english bantam and her chicks are tiny, our rooster is a Polish so we are going to have some funny looking mutt birds.

Last night we put the unhatched egg in a box and put it back in the broody box witha heat lamp on it to avoid burning down the house in the middle of the night. I woke up this morning to find the egg gone. The hen had pulled it out of the box and is back to laying on it, so I think she heard it peeping and decided it was hers. Yeah I hope it will hatch today.
