I have raised 5 porcelain silkies over the last 4-5 months and was pretty settled that we had 4 hens and one rooster. One particularly aggressive hen developed fairly prominent waddles and this morning she crowed. I just read that hens can sometimes become transgender...

Yep, no gender dysphoria there 😆. Lovely boy.

Why do you say porcelain, do you mean white?

Thanks for the excuse to post a pic of my mature boy (any excuse will do, lol)

Silkie pullets and hens have no comb growth at all, it is small and nearly flat, not bumpy and swollen. Like this further gratuitous pic of my hen: 😄

Yes I mean white... when they were chicks I thought they would be porcelain so it stuck. Haven’t learned all the jargon so I appreciate the help. This is somewhat disheartening however because I don’t have enough females to support 2 cockerels and it has gotten a little rough in the hen house/yard

He is a really great looking bird, and I'm sure you can sell him for stud somewhere.

Or get more pullets?

Have you heard of chicken math yet!?

I know how that math happens if that’s what you are asking 🤣 but I haven’t heard of “chicken math”
