Unisex silk

Yep, I wouldn't breed from your older boy who has the wrong comb. Maybe he should go and you keep the younger boy? Or are they related?

oh, it may be that the comb on the less developed one will turn out not to be walnut too then if they are both cross breeds. You'll have to just keep an eye on them and choose to keep the one that best suits you and your flock (whether that is appearance or temperament or other attributes).

Good Lord that's NOT a Silkie (walnut) comb and your first boy has a non standard comb for Silkies as well.. pet quality at best.. and not show or breeding worthy, technically.. for either one according to the SOP.

They aren't mix breed.. they just have the wrong comb. And that's why they look so different from each other.

Very common to see wrong comb in hatchery birds and from back yarder's who don't select for the correct qualities in their parent stock. But also sometimes.. hidden genes in parent stock from past breeding (to create the breed) may pop up in offspring even when folks do select well.

NO judgement here, just discussion for informational purposes. :pop
